Hello all, it seems that I'll have to move here permanently for budget lights information after the changes on CPF...
I registered just to let you know about the new SST-50 lights on DX, all around $55-60:

It's tempting, as I already have a Romi G2, but my developing luxoholism tries to convince me that I need MORE LIGHT! :)
EDIT: Definitely cheaper than UF-1500 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.31869), but I wonder how it compares to UF C8 (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32592) which is roughly the same price. But looking at the only review for C8, it won't be difficult for new Auroras to be better ;)

Yeah @ 2.5A there going to be putting out less than a SSC P7 ..
An IMR should be able to deliver , they say up to 5A ? ?????? Anyways , my MTE SSC P7 pulls just a tad over 3A on fresh cells , so no real point buying a under driven SST 50 .. Hopefully they will get better ..
Now 2x18650 for 8.4v and 2.5A , I could go for that !

It would be nice if they drove the LEDs to spec at 5A instead of 2.5A. But you aren't doing that with a single 18650, probably take three in parallel, or two sets of three. The result is not a small light - which is probably just as well as otherwise it'd get hot enough to melt solder joints.
I do fancy something that drove one of these LEDs at spec. It won't be small or terribly cheap though.
Since DX seem unable or unwilling to ship a big light I ordered last year, I think they owe me enough to get my hands on one of these. Tempted...
