Pictured is a P60 pill , the emitter has not been glued as yet , but is simply in there to check fit , and to see how hard it will be to center it . 2nd picture is the back of the pill where the driver will go ..

In the 1st picture the emitter has been glued and centered as best as I could ..  Pictures 2 and 3 show where the driver will go , picture 2 the driver is upside down , and pic 3 the driver is the correct way .

Picture 1 shows the wires soldered in place , picture 2 shows the emitter connected to the driver  .

Before closing the pill , its a good idea to test to make sure you got things right :

Picture 1 shows the driver soldered to the pill , Picture 2 shows the Positive pad soldered as well as the positive spring , both a pre - soldered to make soldering the spring in place much easier .

Here is the completed pill , all thats needed is the negative outer spring , and more testing to check for any shorts ...

1/ Use Arctic Alumina or Arctic Silver Epoxy to glue the emitter ..

2/ Always check for shorts after completing connections , as a 18650 will deliver over 10A with a short , and that will blow your clicky switch .

3/ Isolate the reflector , when you screw the reflector down [ ESP with XP-G ] it may make contact with the + and - points on the emitter , I use gaffa tape  on the inside to stop the reflector from making direct contact , also dont try to screw the reflector down to tight [ Again ESP on Xp-G ]

4/ Try to keep the solder joints smooth and clean , and dont let them be to high , or they may make contact with the reflector and cause a short ...

5/ Emitter needs to be an a 16mm Base/Star to fit the pill or smaller , and the driver needs to be 17mm Dia to fit correctly .

Good job on that DIY guide, much appreciated. The XP-G emitter looks lost in that large XR-E hole, isn't a XP-E reflector better suited?

Actually makes no difference , beam pattern and output remain the same , since the shape and dimensions of the reflector are the same or close , and the only real difference is the size of the hole for the LED .. Some one needs to design a XP-G reflector to focus the light better , but for now , were stuck with what we can buy .

The next one I do will be built on a XP-E reflector , and I will see if it can be tweaked at all .. I know if you back out the reflector it will focus better [ hotspot ] but then you lose output .

And the hotspot will never compete with that of a XR-E , so its kind of a waste of time , but ill play around with the size of the hole in the XP-E reflector .

I built some XP-G drop ins last year and one of them starts over 400Lumen , but it just cant hold it , too much heat , on a 18650 it just sags and starts to turn blue , on a RCR123A it starts at 380 and sags to 350 or there abouts and does not turn blue , so I have it in a Ultrafire 501A body [ 1xRCR123A ] , a pocket rocket !

XP-G is certainly fun to play with , but we do need a new reflector design ...

I also heard that Cree is going to re-design the XP-G Dome to change the focus angle of the emitted light to match the XR-E emitters , well that would be nice !
