Piritlight SG-L8 Cree Q5-WC 2-Mode 200-Lumen LED Flashlight

I was amazed at the quality of this light , unfortunately the head is glued tight , but it just feels great . For $30 this light is a steal .

Let me just say , so far I have found nothing to complain about , all is as it should be , and is as advertised .  If you dont own a thrower

then seriously , you need to give this one some consideration .

Some facts and figures :

Very nice threads , in the tail , [ heads glued ]

Very nice even anodizing

Runs 18650 / CR23A [ 3v to 9v driver ]

Output advertised @ 200Lumen = This would seem to be 100% spot on .

Tail stands  .

Very nice clicky switch / 2 mode for high and low [ more later ]

Glass lens

O rings are where they need to be [ head glued so ]

Now putting in a 18650 gave me near spot on 200Lumen as near as I can tell and low mode returned about 45 Lumen :

High = 200Lumen / Throw 19500Lux @ 1 Meter / current @ tail 0.9A

Using a pair of AW CR123A returned a little over 200Lumen , but low was the surprise , 160Lumen ?? Not sure whats going on there

but must have something to do with the Voltage and the two stage tail clicky .

High = 215Lumen / Throw 19800Lux @ 1 Meter / current @ tail 0.55A

Lo = 160Lumen / Throw 14000Lux @ 1 Meter

With the CR123A's this thing is still a thrower in Low mode ..

The long term plan is to swap out the driver , DX or KD was it ? have some 1.2A buck boost drivers that just might do wonders for

this light with a 18650 , so I will have to see about pulling the head apart to get inside and do the driver swap .

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this light , and can HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for a thrower , or even just

a nice general purpose light , it's just nice , definitely earned its place in my flashlight collection , and I'm very impressed with it .

It will now be the light I judge others bye :  10 out of 10 for this one .

Always fancied a Spear. I don't actually own a thrower since the "3 million candlepower" device died. Must rewire it when I have a spare day.

Now it looks like I can afford something similar to the Spear. And it is pay day.

Who needs to be able to pay bills anyway?

Took it for a walk , and it throws across the park easy [ 300 Meters ] , and Melbourne is light pollution central .

I like it ...

Just got mine. Hold on, it has an MC-E in it. In a thrower?

Woefully dim on an 18650, throw around the 15,000 mark with 2 16340s. Once I've checked the current draw and charged the IMRs will try it with those. Turns out I've got a http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.19466 which is a completely different animal and says max voltage 4.2V.

Who puts a multi-die LED in a thrower? With a reflector not designed for it. In a smaller head (By about 0.9mm) than the Q5 version. And it would be in February when everything will be complete chaos for weeks. Still, I got it for $15 less. Pity I didn't want it. Returning it will cost more than I paid for it,

Oh yes, and it has a 5 mode driver going medium, low, high, strobe, SOS. Eh?

Wonder how well glued the head is? A 1400mA driver and an R2 might just improve matters.

Seems I have soime sort of contact issue - just got 19900 throw at 1 metre on an 18650 but it flickers. Time for some pulling apart of the tailcap. It might just throw usefully after all. No flicker when tailcap removed and a bit of copper used. Got 23500 lux at 1 metre that way. Seems to me that the spring loaded tailcap post is too short and is not pushing the cell well down into the barrel which it seems to need. There is over 1cm of travel in the spring at the head end. Time to extend the centre post with a 2mm thick magnet. Sadly the spring loaded post isn't made of a magnetic material and the bases of my 18650's only weakly stick to a magnet. By fiddling with the switch retaining ring and loosening it a bit, I can now get reliable contact. Now getting 24500 lux at 1 metre and it's dark so time for some beamshots I think.

Got mine yesterday.

The Good:

+Feels nice and heavy

+Well finished

+ Throws like crazy

+ Can tailstand

+ Nice beam pattern (smooth and very deep reflector)

+Click feels nice

+ Two modes Hi-Mid

+ Looks water resistant

+ Feels expensive and Solid

The bad:

-Head is glued

-I would love to a real Low mode on that light

I like this light so much. For the money it's one of the best throwers you can get and it looks nice too. It's heavy and bulky so not that good for EDC :D or weapon light. Nice general use light thanks to mid mode. Did I say that it looks cool?

5/5 I would give it a 6/5 but that danm head is glued.

Ps. Time will tell if it's durable.
