I really do like this light , most folk seem to like the K-106 , but I like this one , the AK-16 . And I like it because it can run more batteries , if you go to the trouble of making spacers etc , there is only the physical and voltage limitations to worry about . As is , it was designed for AA - 14500 - CR123A use , from 0.7v - 4.5v input . It has a 3 mode programmable interface  , for infinite brightness adjustment ,

From KD = instructions

1) Turn on, and press the switch 3 times lightly (transfer between protected battery and unprotected battery). Flash 1 time, it will be unprotected battery mode; Flash 2 times, it will be protected battery mode.

2) In any condition, press the switch 5 times lightly to “setting”, functions: from low to high, to alarm, to 1 time/second slow strobe, to 15 times/second fast strobe, to SOS, then cycle again. After enter “setting”, fast strobe 1 time, then enter to be the first mode setting (the second mode, strobe 2 times; the third mode, strobe 3 times), wait 3 seconds, cycle and show the above brightness and functions. If turn off>1 second, it will memory the present mode. 4 seconds later, turn on, it will directly enter to the next mode setting. If do it over 5 seconds, it can’t enter to the next mode setting. In the setting processing, press the switch 1 time lightly, it will skip directly to the next mode setting.

Just too much stuff to play with , if you like that ? I just set mine to , Lo - Med - and High , in fact I was able to get my low all the way down to 2-3Lumen , or as many call it , moon mode .

What I like about this lights features :  Being able to chose the modes you want , being able to set the light level of each mode , the battery options , the cheesy clip , and , something they dont tell you , the driver has thermal protection to protect the light from getting to hot , if you run it on high for to long . I only found out after putting in a XP-G R5 , that ran HOT after 60 seconds on high , and the light automatically switched itself to low mode , well , I put the XR-E Q5 emitter back as it ran no where near as hot as that XP-G R5 , so now the light is back to stock .  I also like the fact you can chose protected and unprotected battery modes , for the cell you chose to run .

Some Performance Figures

CR123A Ultrafire @ 4.18v = 170Lumen / 0.82A

14500 Trustfire @ 4.18v = 170Lumen / 0.78A

Primary CR123A / 1.8A to 2.4A - 120Lumen [ Obviously not good at all ]

Varta Heavy Duty AA / 90Lumen - 1.18A

Superpower DRY AA / 70Lumen - 1A

Coles Alkaline AA / 100Lumen - 1.32A

Duracell Alkaline AA / 85Lumen - 1.17A

Ultracharge DRY AA / 50Lumen - 0.87A

Camelion DRY AA / 75Lumen - 0.91A

Tevion Rechargeable AA 1.3v / 75Lumen - 0.91A

Its all good except for the very poor result with CR123A Primaries , they just fell on there face and then some . I would rather spend money on AA's with this light , or run the rechargeable 14500 or CR123A . Well something had to be bad , and I dont use primaries as a rule in anyway , but for some one else , it could be a big deal ... and I dare say it is .

Some pictures for you to enjoy now .

I like this light , darn shame about it not liking primaries , but since I run rechargeable CR123A's @ 4.2v , its not really a problem for me , and if I reach for a non rechargeable , it will be a AA . I have to deduct for the primaries , 8 out of 10 .

Oh , glass lens , good clicky , smooth threads square cut , very well made , I might still buy another .

Bit of an update , If you look at the pictures you will see plastic sleeves built into the tail and head , these sleeves are there to hold the longer AA - 14500 batteries [ No slop or slap ] , if anything , if you shake the light with a CR123A there is a small amount of battery slap , the AA and 14500 are held firm .  And before I forget , there is no spacer needed to run the CR123A , the springs are long enough to hold it in place ...

I didn't even know this light existed! If I did I wouldn't have bought the K-106.

It's programmable too! Frick!

Anybody want to trade?

I'll throw in a free 14500!

To reset to factory setting,

Switch on, half depress switch 5 times to enter "settings" mode, half depress 3 times to reset to factory setting.

I hope this helps
